SEMA Show SC 430 Rolls Up to the Red Carpet for Reno Auction
Built for the 2002 SEMA Show, silver SC 430 comes with an $11,000 custom stereo system under its retractable hard top.
Convertibles are the perfect ride for the summer. All you need to do to praise the sun is drop the top, then roll out to let the wind dance with your hair. Unfortunately, such cars aren’t so great when things go gray and cold, which they will in the weeks to come as summer fades into fall. The cloth tops look good, but they can only keep out the cold for so long.
Unless, of course, you opt for a ride with a retractable hard top, like this 2002 SC 430 we found while perusing the catalog of the MAG Auctions ‘Hot August Nights’ affair, set to land in Reno, Nevada this weekend. Turns out this silver Lexus is no stranger to the Silver State, though.
Back in 2002, the SC 430 arrived in Las Vegas for that year’s SEMA Show, likely because of the $11,000 custom audio system inside the otherwise unassuming silver body and unmodded interior. The custom alloy wheels and ground effects package may be the only hint that it once was part of the craziest custom vehicle show in the world.
Under the hood of the SC 430 is its 4.3-liter DOHC V8 with variable valve timing, which made 300 horses and 325 lb-ft of torque back in the day. The mill is linked to the rear wheels via a five-speed automatic, with disc brakes and traction/stability control keeping the hardtop convertible tied to the road beneath.
While the SC 430’s silver body blends in with the cool autumn skies, you and yours will be kept warm in the cozy tan/gray/black interior with plenty of wood trim to go around. Not to mention that $11,000 custom audio system pumping out the finest sounds ever to grace your ears, whether they enjoy Lil Nas X, Vivaldi, or NPR.
This SC 430 is sure to please its new owner, from its SEMA pedigree to the fact that its hardtop will keep the chillier days and nights at bay until the summer sun returns once more.
