SEMA Tundra Limo Shows Why Lexus Should Build a Pickup
What weighs 8,000 pounds, is not allowed in drive-thrus, and could haul lumber while also taking your kids to prom in the same trip? A limo pickup, duh.
One of the vehicles that is making a splash at the 2015 SEMA show (without body kits, paint jobs, and wheels) is a custom Toyota Tundra 1794 Edition 4×4 CrewMax, aka the TUNDRASINE. That’s Toyota’s moniker, not ours, we’re not clever enough to smash words together to call this what it literally is.
The limousine pickup is more than 26-feet long and has a 236-inch (19.7 feet) wheelbase. That’s 90.2 inches — or about one Yao Ming’s length — longer than the stock truck. Toyota calls it “the pinnacle in executive transport,” which keyed the thought of a luxury truck, which keyed Toyota’s relation to Lexus, which keyed the idea of a Lexus pickup.
How weird and random and awesome would that be? It’d be like when Ford turned the F-150 into the Lincoln Mark LT, but way better. Or how Chevy turned the Avalanche into the Escalade EXT. But again, way better.
Luxury trucks, yes. There’s a market of at least 19 people out there, so Lexus should do it. Right? Right?
