The Smoking Tire Goes Dancing in the Rain With an AE86 Corolla
What do you do if you are given the keys to a modified and stripped AE86 and a wet track to play on? You take that baby drifting.
In this latest video from The Smoking Tire, Matt Farah and the boys are in New Zealand exploring the wild and wonderful car culture that permeates the country. And they have found one man with a love for JDM and a truly special little AE86 to play with. It is Matt’s first experience with a legitimate AE86 Corolla, and I think he may be in love.
The modifications to the car are in line with how I like my cars, too. The little 1984 Toyota Trueno AE86 has the most raspy and raucous exhaust note, the interior has been stripped and filled with custom carbon pieces on the dash, and a full cage and race seats have been installed.
Beyond that though, the suspension has been left on the softer side with lots of travel, there are still proper doors, and the drivetrain is basically stock aside from some gear ratio changes. It’s a car that emphasizes what is good about the AE86 without overdoing anything.
But I will shut up now and let you watch this graceful little JDM machine do its sideways dance for you. Don’t forget to volume up for the full effect.
