Spy Shots: Next-Gen Lexus RX Caught Testing

You don’t have to look further than the Lexus December sales report to see that the RX is still a force to be reckoned with in the mid-size luxury crossover market.

Since its introduction in 1998, it’s consistently trumped competition from every corner of the globe, and with the introduction of the NX complete, Lexus designers have been busy putting the finishing touches on the next generation of what they expect to remain the mid-size luxury crossover leader.

While it’s not as aggressive as the nose of its smaller sibling, the front fascia of the RX has been redesigned, and some sexier LED headlamps have been used.  Sources suggest power will come from a 350hp V8 mated to an eight-speed Aisin gearbox, and that base models will be rear-wheel drive, as opposed to the front-wheel drive layout of previous models.

Additionally, hybrid models will reportedly feature an electric powertrain capable of over 100hp.
