Stunning SC430 Pebble Beach Edition Pines for Warmer Days
Living in South Carolina from purchase to 2020, 2005 SC430 Pebble Beach Edition wonderfully preserved over its luxurious life.
The SC430 has both its fans and its detractors. Those who love it do so because of items like its folding hard top and good power. Those who hate it do so because of its looks, especially when compared to the first-gen SC sport coupes.
Perhaps a middle ground could be found, though, such as this 2005 SC430 Pebble Beach Edition heading off to the sunny skies of Kissimmee, Florida. Why? To find a new home across the red carpet of Mecum Auctions, of course.
This SC430 is part of a collaboration between Lexus and the Pebble Beach Company, which lasted from 2004 to 2009. Each model year included a set number of Pebble Beach Edition models; for 2005, it was 600, the biggest batch throughout the partnership. Color combos would change with each model year, too. The 2005 model year gave fans a PBE in Black Onyx over Pimento Red, like this one going down the red carpet of Mecum.
Under the hood, a Pimento Red engine cover hid the 4.3-liter 3UZ-FE V8 from view. Alas, the Pebble Beach Edition didn’t bring any more horses to the corral, though the 300 already there were likely more than enough for the grand tourer. A five-speed automatic guided the ponies to the rear pair of 18-inch aluminum wheels.
The Pimento Red leather really pops against the Black Onyx exterior, framing the black wood trim and bits of chrome within. Not to mention the special “Lone Cypress” Pebble Beach Company badging on the center console and floor mats. Even the trunk mat is the same Pimento Red as the carpeting. And there’s an AM/FM stereo with CD and cassette, too, in case anyone found a few albums on such formats while at the thrift store.
Despite its name, the SC430 Pebble Beach Edition spent nearly all of its life in South Carolina. Perhaps its next owner might whisk it away to Pebble Beach, though. Either way, this Lexus is a machine meant for the sunshine and beaches, no matter which coast it visits.
