Talented Craftsman Creates Wooden LX 570 Model

It may look like a highly detailed die-cast scale model, but it’s made almost entirely from wood.

Some things are just too incredible not to share. This video of a master artisan creating a highly-detailed Lexus LX 570 is one of them.

This woodworker from Hanoi, Vietnam creates a highly-detailed wooden model of a Lexus LX 570, from scratch, right before our very eyes. Seeing the model come together from a solid block of wood is fascinating and relaxing to watch.

The video starts by showing us the amazing finished project, painted and detailed to perfection. Incredibly, the hood, doors, and hatch open, and the wheels really roll.

There doesn’t appear to be any plastic on this hand-made model at all. It’s almost entirely made out of wood, with the exception of some thin metal rod used for axles and hinges.

The truck starts out as a literal block of wood, which is then cut into four pieces. The craftsman uses a computer print-out of a side profile shot of the Lexus, carefully tracing it onto two pieces of the block that will become the sides of the model.

With the sides cut out and sanded to shape, he begins adding bracing to the center to give the truck the correct width. At this point, we can also see some of the truck’s details begin to take shape.

As more and more parts are added to the model, it becomes very detailed indeed, right down to the door handles. The craftsman makes use of all manner of hand and power tools, from chisels to a Dremel.

Our favorite part was watching the creation of the wheels. Using a homemade jig, a drill becomes a lathe. Wheels are cut out, shaped, and then detailed. The tread pattern and spoke design blew us away. Despite being mostly hidden underneath, the wooden tires have a realistic tread pattern.

When complete, the truck is painted and then rolled along the floor. It’s a truly one-of-a-kind piece that any Lexus fan would be proud to display.

We haven’t had much luck tracking down the creator by name. However, they do have a Facebook page called Artistic Hands DIY.  They do commissions, so get in touch with them if you want to have a detailed wooden replica of your very own Lexus.
