Since first competing in 1999, Lexus continues to innovate in motorsport. From Pikes Peak to the ‘Ring, here’s our top five.
Over 30 years ago, Lexus arrived with a pair of cars which would change the luxury car world forever. Of course, like all other luxury brands, the best way to establish dominance isn’t just in the showroom, but on the race track. Thus, a decade into its life, Lexus fielded a pair of GS400s in the short-lived Motorola Cup touring car series.
Since then, Lexus continues to innovate on the track. Thus, we’ve picked our top five favorite machines from the company’s two decades of competition.
5. Team Lexus GS400
In 1999, Lexus laced up its racing shoes for the first time in the aforementioned GS400. Two of the cars formed the core of Team Lexus, campaigned by team owner/driver Chuck Goldsborough. Six races into the 1999 Motorola Cup season, Lexus scored its first win at Road Atlanta. The team would go on to win two championships in the successor Grand-Am Cup Series.
