Throwback Thursdays: Supercar LFA Drifts Around S.I. Supermodel
Do you remember the LFA ad above, which appeared in the 2011 Sports Illustrated swimsuit issue and perfectly captured “the beauty of power” that comes from drifting Lexus’s supercar around supermodel Rianne ten Haken? Well, if you somehow forgot about this vital piece of Lexus marketing history, then you’ll love today’s Throwback Thursday fare.
The video below offers up a behind-the-scenes look at photographer/director Yu Tsai’s set, where he captured the photo above. To do so, Tsai filmed and photographed champion drifter Rhys Millen drifting a yellow Lexus LFA around Haken, who also looks great in yellow.
While the driving is beyond impressive, you have to hand it to Haken too, not just for looking great (which is technically her job as a supermodel) but for doing so while braving life and limb to get the shot. Perhaps that bravery comes from knowing there’s a pro driver behind the wheel of a car that is more than up to the task. Or maybe it just happened too fast for her to get scared in the first place.
“It moved so quickly, that I didn’t even realize what was going on. And it was just like the energy around me totally changed,” said Haken.
Yep, the Lexus LFA certainly has that effect on people. Don’t you think?
