2022 Lexus IS 500 F Sport Performance

With the IS 500 F Sport Performance coming this fall, these five models must become a part of Lexus’s new high-performance family tomorrow!

Coming this fall, the new Lexus IS 500 F Sport Performance arrives to stake a place between the sporty handlers of the F Sport line and the track-day terrors of the F family. Per the order guide we talked about in July, the new IS combines features from the F Sport — including tuned adaptive variable suspension, exterior styling pieces and power-adjustable sports seats — with the big 5.0-liter 2UR-GSE V8 and its 472 horses of naturally aspirated power.

In short, the IS 500 F Sport Performance was made for those who want more power through the corners from their IS, especially since the last time the sedan had that V8, Barack Obama was president. Additionally, Lexus announced the hottest IS would soon be joined by others in the new F Sport Performance family. We believe Lexus needs to bring these five models into the new family tomorrow.

No. 5: LC

2021 Lexus LC 500 Inspiration

Let’s start with the most obvious candidate, the LC. It, too, has the 2UR-GSE. However, there’s a possible twin-turbo V8 on the horizon, per patents we first shared in May. That turbo V8 would likely supplant the long-running five-liter in an effort to reinvent the F line to better smash the competition through improved power and handling. Since the LC is already the flagship coupe for Lexus, the LC could wind up with tons of handling goodies to bring it up to F Sport Performance-spec.

Thus, while the regular LC 500 and 500h continue their duties as grand tourers, and the possible LC F taking up where the LFA left off, the LC F Sport Performance would be the all-around street and track fighter. Of course, there’s also the possibility of taking the 500h’s hybrid powertrain and turning up the heat to 11. More on this later, though.
