Top 5 Lexus Cars of All Time
The top 5 Lexus cars of all time highlight the company’s achievements and the essence of the brand’s performance, luxury, and style.
The top 5 Lexus cars of all time are grand slam home runs. It’s not easy to hit one your first time up to bat, but Lexus did it with the LS 400. It followed with another solid hit off the ES 250 and then teed off again with the SC 400. From there, the hits kept coming. That’s great for Lexus, but it makes it hard to put together a top-five list of the best Lexus cars of all time.
To cut things down a little, I decided to focus on cars that are milestone achievements for Lexus in either luxury, performance, or both. These cars had to have made an impact on the company, either being a hit with customers, or the press, or setting a new direction. That led me to these five cars.
5. Lexus SC Coupe
It’s hard to overstate how much of a step forward the SC’s design was from other cars of the time. Rather than work off sketches, the design team used balloons and plaster molds to sculpt the shape of the car. The design was fluid and round compared to the angular, blocky shapes coming out of the late 1980s. Then Lexus combined the best qualities of a GT car to create the SC 400. It was fast, sleek, and luxurious. Car & Driver put it on its 10 Best List from 1992 to 1996 and said it “couldn’t think of one single thing to do to the new Lexus coupe that would make it better.”
Today the Lexus SC is a bargain GT car, but may not be for long. Long stagnant prices are heading up.
