Top 5 Lexus Cars of the 2020s
The top 5 Lexus cars of the 2020s continued the company’s styling and performance direction and celebrated internal combustion.
The top five Lexus cars of the 2020s continued the themes set in the previous decade. Styling evolved across the lineup, becoming more cohesive. The company expanded its F performance lineup with Design and Performance packages. Best of all, while most auto manufacturers moved to smaller displacement, turbocharged engines, Lexus retained its wonderful 5.0-liter V8.
It’s almost as if Lexus was celebrating internal combustion, throwing one last wild V8 party. But while that party continued late into the night, the dawn of the electric age approached. To prepare, Lexus charted a course for its electric future, launching an electric SUV and a bold plan to remake its lineup by 2035.
5. Lexus LX
Okay, yes, it’s an SUV, not a car, but hear us out. The original Lexus LX started out as a thinly disguised Toyota Land Cruiser. Over time the two vehicles grew further and further apart in terms of appearance while sharing the same platform. By early 2020 a funny thing happened – the Lexus LX began outselling the Toyota Land Cruiser, capturing almost 50 percent more sales. That may seem strange on the surface, but a well-equipped Land Cruiser topped $90k, while a similarly equipped LX was about the same price. That money is hard to justify for a Toyota badge, but for a premium off-road vehicle that competes with the Range Rover, it’s a reasonable sum for the LX.
Today you can still buy a new Toyota Land Cruiser in the U.S., but it’s wearing a Lexus badge.
