Toyota May Be Tinkering With Giving Lexus Satellite Broadband
Technology is king in certain realms, so this latest move by Toyota may just help keep the automaker in power for a long while to come.
According to Forbes, who knows a thing or two about power, Toyota is working on satellite broadband connectivity for its vehicles.
Of course, for cost purposes, the roll-out of such game-changing technology would start with Lexus. Specifically, the car based on the LF-LC concept, likely to be called the Lexus LC.
“A top contender for this technology would be the Lexus LC that is rumored to debut at the 2016 North American International Auto Show. The rear-wheel drive coupe is widely assumed to be equipped with a V8 engine and expected to take aim at the BMW 6 series and other German competitors for the 2017 or 2018 model year.”
The satellite connectivity news hasn’t been confirmed publicly by Toyota yet, but comes to us from Roger Lanctot, an automotive analyst for Stategy Analytics. Lanctot says that Toyota is working with a Bill Gates-backed company called Kymeta to fit vehicles with small-footprint satellite broadband antennas. The end game, no doubt, is to develop always-on cloud-based infotainment and autonomous car capabilities. Aka, the future.
