Toyota Supra Drifts into 2020 Oklahoma City Auto Show
We found a Downshift Blue GR Premium Supra that looked utterly fantastic under Bennett Event Center’s lights.
We’ve officially reached the point where it looks like most auto shows are getting pushed back due to the continued spread of coronavirus. But thankfully, the 2020 Oklahoma Auto Show was able to go on regardless. And those in attendance, including us here at Club Lexus, were treated to some pretty awesome sights and sounds. Including recreations of Route 66 routes, vintage and military vehicle displays, drive-in movies, and test drives. But we were particularly interested in scoping out the Lexus and Toyota displays, where we spotted a shiny new blue Supra.
The Downshift Blue on Black Premium coupe looked particularly stunning under the Bennett Event Center lights. And though it shares no mechanical differences from the regular 3.0 GR Supra, the Premium does have a host of upgrades that we find worth the jump in price. Especially when you see them in person.
Inside, that includes heated and leather-trimmed seats, along with an 8.8 wide-format touchscreen display with navigation, Apple CarPlay, and Supra Connect telematics services. Other interior niceties include wireless phone charging, a color heads-up display, and a 12-speaker JBL audio system.
Of course, all these goodies will cost you, to the tune of the mid-$50k range. But we find the new Supra to be a very rewarding drive and well-appointed sports car for the money. Sure, it may not share a heck of a lot in common with its much beloved predecessor, but what does? It’s also tossable in the corners and very retro in its driving experience. Sans the presence of a manual transmission, of course.
And while some might pile on that latter fact, there’s no denying that the new Supra is a performer. In fact, only two cars in Car & Driver‘s Lightning Lap history have recorded faster lap times with less power. And they’re the Ariel Atom 3 and the KTM X-Bow, a pair of purpose-built cars with zero frills. Personally, we prefer our sports cars to have a few amenities. And a legendary nameplate fitted to the rear doesn’t hurt, either.
