Toyota’s Chief Engineer Pushing to Build New Supra
While Lexus has been busy preparing for the upcoming LC 500 and LC 500h, Toyota is still desperately fighting to push a new sports, or maybe even supercar, past its accountants.
While some outlets have confirmed that a new generation Supra is definitely in the works, others, like myself, think it’s pure vaporware. That being said, Tetsuya Tada, the Global Chief Designer for Toyota confessed to Australia’s CarAdvice that he’s desperately pushing for a new Supra, and that he also believes in continuing the Supra moniker, not the rumored FT-1 name.
The Supra has been out of production for way over a decade now, and the FT-1 made its concept debut nearly half a decade ago, so it all seems to be lukewarm for the future supercar. Nonetheless, if the astonishing secrecy behind Ford’s GT tells us anything, it’s that manufacturers do know how to keep secrets.
Hardcore fans believe that the Supra badge should retire and allow it to basque in its past glory, while other’s say that continuing the name would be better for sales and the overall legacy of the model.
