Toyota Unleashes TRD Performance Package to Hot Rod Your Tundra (SEMA 2023)

TRD Performance Package

Coming in early 2024, the Tundra TRD Performance Package adds 32 horsepower and delivers max torque sooner while providing a unique look.

Toyota is giving the Tundra a performance shot in the arm for 2024 thanks to a new TRD Performance Package. This new package goes far beyond just some stickers and trim. Selecting this option will get you an extra 32 horsepower and enhanced low-end torque. “In factory trim, the base i-FORCE engine produces 389 peak horsepower at 5,200 rpm and 479 lb-ft. of torque at 2,400 rpm,” said Greg Bernas, vice president, Toyota Service Parts and Accessories Development. “The TRD Performance Package increases power output to 421 horsepower at 5,200 rpm, while peak torque comes on 400 rpm sooner, delivering 479 lb-ft. of torque at 2,000 rpm, broadening the torque band and significantly improving power delivery at throttle tip-in,” Bernas said. “On the i-FORCE MAX Tundra, the kit boosts horsepower from 437 to 469.”

And while the enhanced power is of course the big news, there are some visual cues to the TRD Performance Package. Although the cues are subtle. You get a special badge on the tailgate and a unique exhaust tip treatment. They are nice upgrades, but to be honest this package is really about the increased performance.

TRD Performance Package – Power

To get the increased power Toyota engineers increased the amount of air flowing into the turbochargers. Engine management has been recalibrated via software tuning. The package also uses larger, higher-flowing dual intakes coupled with a higher-flowing cat-back exhaust that reduces back pressure. “Tundra TRD Pro buyers can expect the same horsepower and torque gains from their i-FORCE MAX powertrain. Unique throttle tuning compliments the increased powertrain performance resulting in a sporty and powerful driving feel.”

TRD Performance Package – Pricing

Exhaust

The TRD Performance Package comes at a cost of $3,400 and can be financed along with the rest of your new truck purchase. The package will be installed on your truck before it reaches the dealer, and it comes with the full factory-backed warranty. The price of the package, considering the performance, and visual upgrades along with retaining full warranty seems to be reasonable to us.

TRD Performance Package – Availability

The package will initially be available to just new Toyota Tundra trucks in early 2024. However, Toyota is considering expanding the package to other models. In addition, Toyota is also looking into offering a dealer-installed option for customers who already own Tundra trucks and are looking for a factory-backed way to crank up the power and performance. A package that ups horsepower by nearly ten percent over stock that is offered directly from the factory is rare in the pickup truck market (we’ve mostly seen packages like these on sports cars, like Ford Mustangs). We applaud Toyota for bringing this to market and we can’t wait to see what they begin to offer on their other models.

Toyota also put the package onto its amazing new Tacoma X-Runner concept truck.
