How-To Tuesday: Body Modifications for Your Second Generation Lexus IS

Along with dependability and luxury, one of the best parts about the second generation IS model is how easy it is to modify. Today’s How-To Tuesday article focuses specifically on body modifications for the second gen IS, and there are plenty of ’em.

A new skirt, the lower side part of the car, is one of the more popular body mods. A ground effects kit can make your IS appear closer to the ground, as well as more sporty. All you need to perform this easy mod — and save a bunch of cash from keeping it out of the shop — is a Phillips screwdriver, socket, and wrench. Not only do they look great, but a new skirt can also reduce drag and improve gas mileage.

Another popular and easy body mod is changing out your exhaust tips. Not only will this improve the look of your IS, but it can also give your car a more pronounced exhaust note as well as slight boost in HP.

Continuing with the easy mods, there’s also the grille replacement. Though a new grille can certainly improve the aesthetics of your ride, don’t forget to purchase one that also achieves the main goal: protecting the engine and radiator from debris, while allowing for maximum air flow.

The last mod the article covers is for a front or rear lip replacement. A new front lip can reduce the amount of air that flows beneath your car, which can improve overall speed. Both front and rear lip mods greatly enhance the looks, but these mods are more difficult than the others, and may require a bit more skill. But like the rest of these DIY projects, today’s How-To article should help you determine what’s in your wheelhouse.
