How-To Tuesday: What to Do If Your Brake Pedal Hits the Floor
There aren’t to many scarier automotive feelings than having your brake pedal hit the floor. But knowing why this is happening could help you to avoid the fright in the first place.
Today’s How-To Tuesday article explores the various reasons why you might have a soft brake pedal, and how you can avoid such terror. For the most part, this generally happens when you’re low on brake fluid, or because there’s a problem in the master cylinder. Another culprit could be that your brake fluid is overheating, which can happen if your hard on your brakes, or spend a lot of time riding them.
All of these can cause a lack of pressure in the brake booster, and give you that sinking feeling of the pedal hitting the floor, making your car hard to stop. If that happens, today’s article lays out four different steps that could alleviate the problem.
Step 1 is to bleed the brakes to remove any air that might be caught in the braking system. Step 2 is to replace any leaky seals in the master cylinder (although you might want to have the Lexus dealership take care of this). Step 3 is to refill the brake fluid reservoir with ATE Super Blue Racing fluid. And Step 4 is to flush the brake system of dirt and debris.
Today’s How-To article will walk you through each step in far more detail, so check it out, and stay safe out there folks!
