How-To Tuesday: Changing Out Your Brake Calipers

If I was to tell you that replacing your brake calipers is easy; would you believe me?

Neither would I, but I’m not the one saying as much. That bit of information, as well as all the know-how you’ll need to perform such a DIY task, can be found in today’s How-To Tuesday article, aptly titled, “Lexus IS: How to Replace Brake Calipers“.

We’re specifically talking about the IS 250, IS 350, and IS F models between the years 2005 and 2014. Some of the information should be helpful for other models too. But if you have any doubts, check with your mechanic before attempting this project at home.

Since they’re common wear items, learning how to change out your calipers (and pads, rotors and fluid) can really save you some bucks in the long run. Or if you ever want to make your Lexus more track-friendly, calipers are a great place to start… or stop, as the case may be.

After picking the right calipers and assembling the many varied tools (and perhaps an assistant), just follow the clearly laid-out steps n the article. It should only take you two to three hours to switch them out. Careful though, it’s a messy job, but certainly one you can handle. After all, it’s easy!
