[Update: Matt Farah of the Smoking Tire and /DRIVE  has purchased this car, and has put out a call for West Coast writers to take it on a road trip. I’m going to contact him and see if I can take it for a spin. This is absolute best ending to this sale that could have happened. Head to the Smoking Tire to check out why he couldn’t pass up this deal–and what his exciting plans for the car are! ]
Generally, when something “interesting” pops up on Tampa’s Craigslist, “interesting” is about the nicest way it can be described. Think hi-risers, faux Gucci leather and eye-searing paint jobs. That’s the general picture.

But this 1996 LS 400 is interesting in the awesome way–because if the odometer is correct–it’s travelled nearly 900,000 miles. The title of the posting puts the car’s mileage as 897,123, but the image within the listing shows 897,530. Given the insanely high mileage, the 400-mile discrepancy is probably just an indication the seller isn’t putting much importance on anything past the seven, which works for me. Here’s the description:

1996 LEXUS 400 4-DOOR. THE MILEAGE IS NOT A MISPRINT. THE CAR FAX SHOW,S THE MILEAGE TO BE CORRECT. THE CAR IS A FLA CAR SINCE NEW. THIS CAR IS ALL FACTORY,EXCEPT PAINT. REPAINTED A YEAR AGO. ALL THE OPTION,S WORK, AIR IS COLD,HEAT IS HOT.THE FACTORY RADIO DOES NOT WORK. THE CAR DRIVE,S GREAT. LOCATED IN CLEARWATER FLA. FLA TITLE.. 4.0 V-8. THE MILEAGE IS NOT A MISPRINT. 897,123 MILES.

Now, while the ad describes the car as–aside from the paint–all factory, but the headrest monitors say otherwise, and I wonder if a shabby installation might have something to do with the fact that the stock radio is currently dead. That said, the interior looks immaculate for a car with this many miles on the clock.

Personally, for $1900, I’d buy this baby just to keep it on the road. You can check out the ad here. Hopefully there’s someone out there who shares my sentiment.
