2020 Lexus RC F Track Edition Burns Rubber at Goodwood
Lexus’ RC F Track Edition may not be a classic yet, but it still showed its mettle as a future classic at the famous Festival of Speed.
Few things in our hobby are universal. We modify our cars to be highly personalized reflections of our tastes and personality. It stands to reason that we rarely agree on anything.
Burnouts are the great equalizer. Nearly every car enthusiast can agree that a big, smoky burnout is good for the soul.
Lexus was present at the Goodwood Festival of Speed back in July. They were there not only to soak up the best of classic motorsport culture, but to show off a future classic of their own as well.
Like many of you, we’re eagerly awaiting our turn behind the wheel of the 2020 Lexus RC F Track Edition. Seeing as only 50 will come to the United States, we might be waiting a very long time indeed.
In the meantime, we can enjoy this video from YouTuber Automotive Mike. He was present at Goodwood this year, and got some great footage of the hot new Lexus.
In the video, we can hear the RC F Track Edition’s V8 idle and rev, as well as see it in action on the track. Most importantly, though, we get to watch it turn its rear tires into a pile of smoldering black shavings.
The rowdy-sounding powerplant under the hood is the same 5.0 liter Lexus 2UR-GSE V8 we know and love, making 472 horsepower in this application.
While that’s not substantially more power than the RC F, it doesn’t really matter. As evidenced by its name, the RC F Track Edition isn’t designed to be a monster — it’s supposed to be a balanced track-day machine. Further upgrades over the RC F include a Torsen limited slip differential, carbon ceramic brakes, and forged BBS wheels.
Still, 472 horsepower is quite a lot, as evidenced by the car’s seemingly effortless ability to grind the finest performance tires (Michelin Pilot Sport 4S, in case you were wondering) down to dust. It will take an experienced, steady hand to extract the best lap times out of this car. Bring it on, we say.
