Lexus SC Tragedy Leads to Massive Triumph

By -

Luckily, the drivetrain in the old car was in good shape. And many of the old parts were also in good enough condition to transfer over to the “new” Lexus SC.

“Before my SC was totaled, I had bought the car already 1JZGTE swapped and single turbo converted. It also had a blown eBay turbo, vertex body kit, springs, and tore up interior. This was my first boosted car. Months later, after much smoke, I bought a Precision 6262. This turbo lasted me 4 years. Year later I went with an AC rep bumper. Vertex kit, ’97 front bumper with a ’97 Vertex lip, and Varrsteon ES6 19×9.5 +0, 19×11 +0.”

The first order of business was to clean up and replace the nasty interior. Which was nothing a good pressure washer and some new parts couldn’t take care of. Once the new torque converter arrived, work began on the transmission. And that wasn’t the only thing that the OP changed on his box.

My transmission specs:
•Upgraded Raybestos high energy clutches
•Superior shift kit
•Re-pressurized and rebuilt valve body
•6-an steel braided lines to replace the stock transmission lines
•Bypassed radiator cooler to an external transmission cooler
•Cost to do this was under $600-$700 with labor”

After cleaning up and doing some basic maintenance on the engine, it was installed in the new Lexus SC shell as well. The next order of business was the driveshaft, followed by a dash swap to replace the busted up original. And then, it was time for the sad part – parting ways with the OP’s beloved old Lexus SC!

“I have had this car for almost 5 years. I’ve put her through many changes, upgrades, mistakes, and she has never once let me down. The majority of my car knowledge came from this car and I’ll miss her dearly. I will take away this knowledge and parts from her and transfer them into the new car, Phoenix, so I will still have a piece of her there.”

After an incredible amount of work and roughly three years later, Phoenix rose from the ashes looking absolutely amazing! Shortly thereafter, the engine and transmission both went South, but the OP is back at it again with a fresh drivetrain build.
