Updated 1/20/2015 at 12:46Wrecked Magazine has posted this teaser shot of Yoichi Imamura’s Lexus LFA drift car. And while it confirms our worst fears—the glorious V10 has been swapped for a TRD V8—the pic raises more questions than it answers.

First, doesn’t it seem like a car built around an carbon tub isn’t the best choice for a drift machine? And how did Yoichi Imamura get an LFA to turn into one? And like, where’s the glorious V10 that’s supposed to motivate the car? Is it destined for a sleeper project? Is it in display limbo somewhere?

We just don’t know. But rest assured we’ll keep you posted.

For those who admire the gorgeous V10 and precision engineering of the legendary Lexus LFA, this might be some painful news to read. Because it sure was painful to write.

Over in the Land of the Rising Sun, Yoichi Imamura showed off the latest car he built for the coming D1 Grand Prix season—and it’s no ordinary bruiser. Eagled-eyed Lexus fans might recognize that the car in the pic is an LFA, and rumor is Imamura gutted the car, and replaced the wailing V10 with a TRD NASCAR motor. Obviously, he didn’t stop there, as the exterior of the car clearly shows some cosmetic changes, including a wide body treatment and large wing.

There isn’t a lot of other information on the car, so we’ll probably have to wait until we get closer to the start of the D1 season before any more specifics are revealed. But let’s just say this is one car I particularly hope doesn’t wind up getting lunched on the wall during a battle.
