Just change the fluids with the recommended fluid and you should be fine. You should be able to tell by looking at it if any of the seal are leaking, otherwise, change fluid and enjoy!!

well if teh gears are damaged, you will see chips and cracks on the gearings, and when you turn you will hear noise. if there are probelm with seals, it will leak, otherwise you are good

You might want to open up the pumpkin and see if there actually is a LSD in there. It's happened to me and several other supraforum members where there wasn't a LSD inside. It usually isn't the seller's intent to lie but a simple mix up in regards to code numbers when confirming whether a supra has a LSD or not.

i just got the lsd i bought from synco357 today. the mechanic i was hoping to do the swap for me is on holiday so it's going to have to sit in the basement for 2 weeks.
in the meantime i was wondering about what everyone was writing up above. i am a total noob and differentials so bear me out.
1. how do i know if this thing has an lsd or not? is it there some way of telling by turning it by hand? if i have to open it up, how do i tell from the contents whether it is or not?
2. there are these two "arms" sticking out on the driveshaft end with rubber bushings in them. around their circumference are these "blocks", almost like tread on tires. one of them has the "block" torn off... is this bad?
3. also, the rear cover has some sort of fitting on it that is leaking oil. i tried tightening it but it continues to leak. is this normal?
4. lastly, how am i to store this for the next 2 weeks? laying flat? standing straight up? which side is up?
thanks in advance... sorry for the confusion. this would have been much simpler if i had a working camera today

brother's camera phone... sorry for the bad quality:
leaking breather?
the bushing in question:
and what is the recommended fluid? i was told to use royal purple with lsd additive... but i thought the lsd additive was for clutch-type lsd's? isn't the supra one mechanical?

you can't tell by turning. you hav to open it up. take a pic and most of us can tell you right the way. it has those "worm" type of gears
the leak, yes it's important. need to seal it good imho
the bushings i am not 100%

That unit looks different from my 3.76 rmm lsd. I'm not a mechanic, but the thing I noticed is that your unit is missing the 2 mini axles. Yours has a ring with 6 bolts arount the perimeter...not sure how something like that is installed. Also, you might want to get an opinion on that bushing...it looks beat up. As for leaks, its a must to get that fixed, the unit only holds about 1 3/4 qts of gear oil. Last thing you want is for it to run dry. Good luck
