I have the Gen 4, and when I tested the 450H last week, I was amazed at how much better Gen 5 looked- Different colors, different icons, different menus, scrolls much quicker, no fuzzy or squiggly lines, and no pixels without looking really close.
There are a few small pictues of gen 5 in the 450H e-brochure at lexus.com. It's a pdf file, so you need to enlarge it to see the details.

Can anyone please explain what Lexus means by the "3D Shadow Effects" on the 5th Generation Nav?

Here's a thread where the 5th Gen NAV was mentioned recently.

Here are some screen shots of the 5th Gen Nav that first started with the 2006 IS250/350. This is quoted from an old thread:

Manny,
The 5th Generation Navigation is simply a cleaner interface offering more colors, theres nothing really different other than aesthetic looks of the characters and screen interface and a few more added features. The NAV defeat from the 4th Generation Nav designed by Denso/Fujitsu-Ten for Toyota/Lexus works IDENTICAL for the 5th Generation Lexus Navigation system. As DaveGS4 mentioned in those two links, the same procedure works for the Gen 5 systems found in the New 2006 IS, Newest 2007 models i.e. The ES350, RX350, GS Series, and the LS460. This same nav interface is also found in the new 2007 Camry w/Nav. The New 2006 IS was the first Lexus model to feature the 5th Gen Nav. It will eventually be available across the board along with select Toyota models.

Alright... time for an early lease return... DAMNIT!!!
It's like DOS to XP! ok... maybe not that bad... BUT at least 98 to XP.... (btw, let's not start a whole Mac/PC debate over this comment!)

Does anyone know how the hard drive based Navigation system in the new LS compares to the current DVD based version? Is it reasonable to assume that all DVD based systems will be replaced with hard drives in the next few years?
