Exclamation Big Question!! I have 20's .....

Ive had 20's on my 2002 Lexus gs now for about 2 months, and latley ive been hearing this squeeking sound... So today I was fed up with it and decided to go to the mechanic about it, he said I need all new wheel bearing which is going to cost 215 a piece plus labor..... So you figure over 1000$ , which is a lot considering I am only 17 and spent most of my money on the rims.... Now to the part that really made my heart drop, he said I should get rid of the rims or I will keep having this problem.. He said that the 20's put to much stress on the wheel bearings....
Here is my question.... I got the car with 80k miles, and only droven around 4,000 miles (2,000 with rims)..... Is it just because there are already so many miles and it was bound to happen sometime, or do I really have to take of my new 20's???

I dont think you need to necessarily get rid of your wheels, especially after putting a lot of money into them. You may need to replace some of the stock suspension (ball joints, wheel bearings, etc...things of those nature), but be sure you get them done by someone that knows our cars (and not just a mechanic that might over charge you on parts and labor). Check our CL vendors for parts that you might need....its usually more cost efficient to order through them.

A lot of our GS owners are rolling on 20's, but have done some minor or major suspension mods also to accomodate the added stress that larger wheels place on our stock suspension.

Just type "wheel bearings lexus" into your browser and you'll find lots of places that sell them. Good luck

So who tried to rob you? We should all know so we can stay away from these people.

Is that for an OEM bearing? If so, where? The cheapest I've found is $80 each for OEM Toyota. I need on for my pass front.

Don't think they are OEM....the OEM brand is called Timken and that is about right for theres. Not sure of the off brand but here is a link for you. For the difference in price....I would just get the Timken OEM ones if it was me...just to be safe on it fitting ok
