You should do a search on ClubLexus about audio and the stock 10" woofer that comes with the GS. It's made of paper and doesn't handle power very well. With an upgraded sub, your sound will be much better. Mind you, the stock power amp that powers the 10" wooder might not be sufficient to drive the 10" Pioneer (and especially not powerful enough to drive the Infinity.) Both woofers are rated at 500 watts. The stock amp produces 12 watts I believe.
There was a "test" done, where a stock GS with the Pioneer radio was fitted with aftermarket speakers. It sounded better than the Mark Levinson system in the GS430, which, BTW, uses paper speakers as well. Go to any high-end audiophile store and they'll tell you that the speakers are the most important componenets of any audio system. After all, they are the ones that actually produce the sound.

10" pioneer sub
I already have a punch 100dsm amp, so I was planning on using that. My main thing is that I do not want to put in a sub in a box. I listen mostly to jazz and spanish rock, which is not so much a deep bass type of sound. I want it tight... but deep bass is not so important. I have attempted to get info on this from stereo stores, but as usual.. all they say is put a new stereo, a sub in a box, and an amp.. I don't want to mess with any of that. I just want to improve the bass and would preffer to replace the stock "paper" sub with a better one. So I want to know if replacing the stock sub with a better free air sub and my punch 100dsm amp will give me a better or how much better sound...

Who told you that the stock sub is made of paper?!?!.....I've taken 2 of them out already, the one in my car (98GS400)and Ted920 (99GS300) and the cones were both made of polypropolene plastic...there was no paper at all.... Just want to clarify that the stock sub can handle power (just not much) the stock sub is pushing about 25 watts...you could hook up a 50watt amp and that little thing will pound!

Are you serious???? So I can get one of those Infinity or Pioneer upgraded free air subs, hook up my punch 100dsm, and it will sound "much" better than the stock one??? Like how much better? Is it worth the money, improvement wise to upgrade this sub?
