They go outside the housing. I installed them using only the red a black wire connections coming out of the control module. The lights will not work unless connected to to control module. There is also white, green, and a brown wire but the the tacky instructions make no mention of where these wires are suppose to connect. Can't really figure out where the these wires go.

They look good and seem seem to be pretty good quality. I wired the red wire to the alternater hot wire and the black wire to ground.
