Default Toddler Seat

I just picked up a recaro signo for my 1 yr old and the seat is too big to fit rear facing in the IS. Anyone using a covertible seat in their IS? I'm thinking the britax roundabout would probably fit better. Did a search and only found posts for booster seats.

You got the wrong car for rear facing convertible seats. I had 2 britax marathons facing forward in the back of my IS, and even then it was extremely tight. I now use booster seats, so there's more space. I can't imagine how I'd fit the marathon in rear facing . . .

Why are you putting it in rear facing for a 1 year old? That's when you are supposed to turn it facing forward.

I agree with socalJD on rear facing.

I've got a Britax (I think Marathon) fwd facing. There's kicking on the front seat, but it fits fine. I would change my answer if the front seat passenger was 6ft. I never had it rear facing in this car.

I got the car before the kid came. The graco snugfit worked for the first year rear facing. I can put the recaro in my 4runner, but sometimes I need to transport my son in the IS. I can fit the recaro in the IS, but it kinda blocks my blindspot rear facing. The roundabout is a little smaller than marathon, wondering if it'll fit better. I think it's safer to keep toddlers rear facing as long as possible, more chance of injuries if hit head on when front facing.

Here is a photo of the Recaro Child seat that I've had in the IS350 since my Daughter turned one - she's 15 months now and really loves this seat, plus it looks and fits great w/out having to move the seat forward. But yes, a rear-facing child seat is just about out-of-the-question here, and I used my RX for that.

I'm not so sure about that. Rear facing, you only really have the 2 lower anchor points. Front facing, you have the top latch too--with 3 points locked in, that seat is in tight, with less possiblilty of jostling around (esp sideways) in an accident.

I have a Roundabout for my toddler but front facing. I haven't tried it but using it as rear facing might fit.

Top latch is only for front facing so the top of the seat won't move forward with hard braking. You can install a rear facing seat just as tight as front facing. From what I've read, rear facing is safer when it comes to head on collisions because there is less chance of spinal injuries from the infants head moving forward from impact. Just my personal preference. I'm going to try to him keep rear facing until 23 months or until he reaches 30lbs.
