Window Tint recommendations in the SF Bay Area: All Threads Merged
Due to the overwhelming and quite repetitive request for tint shops, I have decided to merge most of the recent threads on this topic.
If you have additional recommendations or positive / negative comments on a shop, please post here.
If you have a specific question about types of tint, request for pics of your color/model of car with tint, how dark, etc. feel free to start a new thread.
PLEASE DO NOT start a new thread asking what many have already responded to on this current thread. Just add on to this one.
My personal recommendation on selecting a shop is to read up on the tons of feedback given here.
Common sense and reason say that the shops with the most recommendations and with posts that have detailed compliments describing why a member likes a shop are probably good posts to go by.
My personal preference is to shy away from recommendations for shops that don't have a lot of feedback or recommendations from one only member, instead of several different members.
I also place little value when I read only a few words that just say "they're the BOMB", "cheap price" or "will hook you up, tell them I sent ya".
If you have a new shop that you really feel is good, we want to know about it. If they're truly good, then over time, other's will follow and post as well.
If someone is not happy with a shops work, I suggest that your first action should be to go back to the shop and ask them to correct it.
Please give any shop / business the opportunity to correct an issue before taking your gripe to a public forum. This goes for any type of service business.
Coming on these forums and venting as your first step, is not the preferred way to fix the problem. Also if there is a legitimate complaint to post, please make sure to provide MEANINGFUL details of your problem.
Just saying they suck, or that you just didn't like them, is WORTHLESS IMHO.
If there is a legitimate problem with a well established and highly recommended local shop, we STILL DO want to hear about it, but do post detailed information .
These are my personal recommendations, however you are free to make your own best judgement.
Let the people will decide !

Anybody have a good shop they would recommend for tinting my GS? I have NAV, so from what I can tell I need to get mine done from a shop that does not use Metallic tints. Right?
Open to suggestions..
The car is blk/tan so I was thinking of 15% all around or maybe 20..... Even this depends on the place. I was at 2 places locally and one of then 15% was perfect and the other 15% was too dark... Kinda wierd...

Another prop for Sid at Auto Mall Tint Factory in Fremont. Take the Auto mall exit. Get it?
He's done like 6 of my cars over 15 years.
Either Sid does the work or his partner. He trusts no one else to do the work. Any tint shop where the installers go in and out like a revolving door is not the place to go. Sid prides hiomself on his work. He has a second shop in San Leandro if you are closer. He runs between the two shops. By appointment.
Premier Mobile our CL sponsored Body Armor Guys also do installs at Sids shop. Get tinting and clear bra done at the same time.
These are two areas where you get what you pay for. If you wanna know why other tint shops may chrage super cheap ask Sid why.
Last thing, stop by his shop and ask him about how he balanced out the tint % on "Glen's" car. My car is on his photo board. He does something most people don't know about and it works quite well when it comes to this light tint / dark tint balancing act.
You got a Lexus.
Now do the right thing.

I live in SJ and work in Los Gatos (spent 3 weeks doing research just on tint shops). Sid's shop (Auto Mall Tint Specialist) was the one I eventually went with. He does a really good job. He's a little more pricey than others, but well worth it. The Stevens Creek Lexus dealer recommended California Auto Tint (in Cambell), but they were pricier than Auto Mall Tint Specialist, and their office/waiting room just didn't look professional to me. Other than that, I must have called or stopped by about 15 shops. Either they didn't sound professional on the phone, didn't pick up the phone, or I didn't like the way their shop was set up. Sid's the place to go.
Oh yeah, RMMGS4, I guess I saw your car on his picture board. He recommended that I go w/ that same tint set up, and I agreed. I love it. Blends very well.

Sounds like you really did your homework. Glad it worked out well for you.
The set up he used on my car, I've followed on all my other cars ever since. If anyone wants to know about the cool set up Sid does for the GS, well, I guess you'll just have to call & drop by and check it out for yourself. Just ask him about my car.

Welcome to NorCal CL.
Please do an advanced search under "Nor Cal region" and the key word "Tint". You should find several posts on the subject over several years time. After reading up, if you still have any further questions, just respond here.
I'll bet Tamr_gus98 or LDYNRED will respond to you with recommendations as well.
Good Luck
