Unhappy aftermath of hit and run

first post ftw

been reading the forums for quite some time, never registered until today

it all happened sunday night, I parked up the street from work where I usually do conviently in a one space between driveways - trying to avoid things like this

came out around 10pm and noticed light reflecting off the side of my sc

some asshat hit me pretty good and decided not to leave me a note

damage:

the left tailight was also damaged which is hard to see in the pics

I called my insurance agent, told her about what happened, and told me bottom line I need to put down my deductible ($1000) before they can do anything

in the mean time, I've been to a couple shops in Oakland and Alameda

cheapest quote I've got so far is around $750

does this seem resonable to you guys?

If you are getting quotes at or near your deductible of 1000 bucks, just pay for it yourself. Easier that way, won't go on your insurance, and ultimately cheaper.

Body shops have two ways of quoting a job. They will quote one if insurance is paying (more expensive) and one if you are paying out of your own pocket.

Don't just necessarily go with the cheapest. Get 3-5 quotes and go with your gut as to which one you choose. Most of them will give you either a great feel and show you everything they've got or will be kinda secretive about what they do or don't do. The shady places of course aren't places you want to go.

Good luck with fixing it though. Wish you the best and I'm sure any of us here will offer whatever help they can.

car was purchased when I was underage and it was the choice of my step father to go for the higher deductible to "save some money on payments"

TJ, of course, all the quotes I've been getting together are non insurance

ughhhhhhh

there is no way you can fix that for 750 and it look good.
pay the deductable and take it to a really good shop.
its not like you can replace that panel very easily and if they fix it crappy there is no way you can undo it. if it was anywhere else i would say get it done cheap. sorry about that. karma will get them fo sho.

kinda looks like the famous drifted my car into a wall dent.
you should tell people you busted a monsterous 100 yard drift or something crazy like that.

Man I can relate. I had similar damage not too long ago but luckily the chick hung around for me!

Do NOT get a cheap job, it will look like crap and devalue the car. My final bill that insurance payed was about $3400 for the damage you see there. Here is a picture of what it looked like after the great repair job they did.

Good luck with the repairs!

I agree 100% . Just pay the deductible if you can, this way it done right. Getting some things cheaper is not always better.

After reading that I definitely say go through insurance (even though insurance companies and deductibles are annoying and sneaky). Yeah, that $750 seems too little to me, too, unless it's some kind of a Maaco budget paint job... I would think $750+ would cover paint alone minus any repair work. I hope if you go through insurance it's like 3 or 4 grand. That'd be better than say $1,100 or something close to the deductible.

good info troy

I'll start looking more into going through insurance...but I'm still leaning towards not

tomorrow I'll stop by a few more reputable shops
