LS400 starter replaced still won't start
Greeting forum,
I have a 1993 LS400 recently purchased, seller disclosed car needed a starter. Car drove fine, got home, next morning click, click, click. I replaced the battery terminals, replaced the starter relay, and jumped the starter from the battery, still nothing but clicks. Looked at replacing starter myself, but seemed to be too intense, so I had mechanic change it out. Once he was done, starter just spins. Mechanic checked coils, they were getting power, took out sparkplugs, they were dry, he states they were not getting any spark. Also said sparkplugs should have fuel on them which it did not. Any ideas on what could possibly be the problem> Any help is beneficial.

Thanks for the reply. Plugs were dry, no spark, I'm in the process of checking fuses. How would I go about checking the fuel pump? Would it just die without warning? Also, had the battery checked, one of the cells was bad, took a battery out of my other car, still same deal.

There will be no sparks unless the crankshaft is turned, nor will there be any moisture (read: gasoline) in the cylinders. From what you write, it's not clear if the engine is turning or not.
Also what my fellow Swede says, the crankshaft postition sensor could be broken. I've seen this in other cars and they were dead full stop.

I tried startiing it before I went to sleep last night and it is turning over, just can't get it to start. Gave it a few shots of starting fluid and it was almost there. Thought it might be out of fuel, I checked and the pressure buildup was loud. Put some gas in and pressed on the gas as I tried to start and still turning but not over.

I took the car back to the mechanic that did the starter, he is lost. Thinks it may be theft system. To check the crank position sensor will I have to dismantle the intake again? The car sounds like it wants to start but the fuel lines are dry and there is no spark to plugs.
