Default Detailing Question.......

Does claying a car remove things like ceramic coating or other desirable sealants or treatments? I'm assuming it would but wanted to ask.

Thanks,

Randy

Yes. Clay barring a car removes everything.

No clay bar does not remove coatings. Clay bar remove contamination.

Clay is inherently abrasive. A clay bar especially so. however it won't remove coatings. the way you remove coatings is a polish.

Unless you have a full scale polish planned, avoid the clay bar. Clay bar is sort of 2003 now that clay towel is out. clay towel is much much safer. particularly perforated.

My clay method is:

Perforated clay towel soaking in a bucket of rinseless
Clay lube
Iron remover spray

all makes for a super slippery combo. and no scratching on my brand new black paint. See my blog for more info/details. i will do some more posts soon.

the clay bar is really for extreme stubborn cases. like spot claying. it shouldn't be for the whole car unless you have a polish session planned out. it will scratch.
