Default Ceramic coating

Has anyone tried the dealer applied ceramic coating. Pros/Cons, pricing. Thinking of having it done

I went with a private detailing shop that applied the ppf and ceramic coating. I was able to select one of the products they use rather than the dealer branded version.

I would not go for the dealer ceramic. Find a local detailer and have them do it instead. You'll have better results with a better product and better longevity.

I don't even trust the dealer to wash my car; I've seen the products they use.

Ask around for a trusted auto detailer.

I echo what others are saying and not have a dealership apply a ceramic coating. Absolutely go to a car detailing shop who specializes in applying ceramic coatings.

My personal experience with applying ceramic coating to my RX350, I researched the reviews of ceramic coatings, local detailers and cost. I decided on IGL Kenzo. Detailers who use their product must be certified thru an application training program. I found a local detailer, “interviewed” them and along with strong online reviews, gave them my business. Cost was $1100. Couldn’t be happier with the results!

I’m into my 3rd year after having the coating applied and it’s held up extremely well. My RX is black so keeping it clean can be a challenge. Once the ceramic was applied, the vehicle was so much easier to clean and stayed looking clean so much longer. I can’t recommend enough to have a top tier ceramic coating applied…but NOT at a dealership!

The only people satisfied by dealer coatings are people who are not that into detailing and just want something that looks super shiny clean after they drive it thru the automatic car wash without having to pay for a wax

dealer coating business relies on the tenet of ignorance is bliss

A dealer is simply going to outsource it, wether that be at the nearest shop or mobile vendor. If you really want to do that route but save some money, find out who they use.

I worked at a dealership a long time ago and this is how it was done, not to mention when the dealership offered to do some PPF and detail for me, they said they would need to check with their vendor and their availability.

This is the thing - It’s not uniform from dealer to dealer. It’s a local indy guy most likely (“mobile vendor” as he says). You won’t get a meaningful response this way. You aren’t comparing apples-to-apples.

I used the dealer because it's a Lexus product and comes with a four year warranty. I an one year in and my car looks great.
