Sticky dash

Sticky dash
I am having the sticky dash problem with my es350 2007. Garage kept, only Lexus maintenence, 55,000 original miles. Was at Lexus having my oil changed at the same time the sticky dash recall was going on and received a car inspection report that stated there were no recalls on my vehicle at that time. Car still is garage kept and dash started melting about 2 years ago. My 98 year old mother and her caregiver drive it to dr appts. I drove it last week and couldn’t see anything for the glare in the windshield. It’s worse on drivers side because of the arch over the drivers panel. Contacted Lexus and they said there was nothing they could do. Seems like a shady way to do business if you ask me.

Maybe i got lucky here, but my 2007 IS250 also got the sticky / flaking dash problem. It is/has been garaged day and night, but i do live in TX (so very hot and sunny). I bought the car in 2015. I took it to Sewell Lexus of Dallas a year or two later and pointed out he sticky dash issue to them. I *think* they said there was a recall, so they ended up replacing the entire dash for free around 2017 (?). The new (replaced) dash has been holding up well, as it is now 7 years later and there is no stickiness and no flaking. I use a damp cloth to wipe it down every so often... i dont use any chemicals on it for fear they will make the dash get sticky and start do dissolve again.
That sucks that Lexus wont replace your dash, when its clearly not an end user caused problem.

A17 year old car still running fine and saying a manufacturer is shady... lol I'm sure op is a dealer's favorite customer.
Plastic coatings deteriorate over time, it's a common thing and not isolated to vehicles. You have to strip the coating and then can paint over it if desired. Most of the 1st gen IS folks just strip and leave the plastic silver (coating was black).
Just search for IS300 sticky dash and you'll find a ton of examples of how to remove coatings and refinish the plastics.
