Should I cover my car? Or is it a waste of time?
As many NE's know winter is upon us and the temps are rapidly dropping. New York is expecting a large snow storm this weekend. Unfortunately I don't have a garage and I was thinking about purchasng a car cover as a form of protection. I know it will help with frost on the car at least, maybe it's the best thing since I don't have a garage. I'm **** about my paint and I have already located two touchless car washes, one by my job and one close to home, so salt won't be in contact with the paint too long. Should I add the car cover to my care regiment? Or will the washes suffice? Any thoughts or suggestions? Thanks.

I hear what you're saying man about the NE snowstorms. Believe me, I've been through it all, thick and thin, but just my opinion, I wouldn't bother purchasing a car cover. #1 reason, the snow/ice will put a lot of weight on the cover, probably making it difficult to take off. #2 reason, most likely the car cover will be stored in the trunk during the drives, and the trunk will turn into a wet and dirty mess (especially if you have subs and amps).
I also don't have a garage (I live in a condo), and as far as taking care of the paint/exterior during the winter season, I take the Lex to an automatic, touchless and brushless wash once every few weeks (depending on dirt and salt accumulated), and I get the underbody cleaned to prevent any rusting or corrosion (most automatic washes have that capability). The paint will stay fine throughout winter as long as I follow that regimen.
The way I see it, a car cover makes sense if you plan to store your vehicle (inside or outside), and not use for a period of time.

I agree but for different reasons.
If you care about your paint, you should never cover a dirty car. If you do the dirt between the cover and the paint will work like sand paper in any kind of wind. This is less true of a custom fitted cover which will blow less but is still a concern for me. I generally keep mine covered with a Lexus-fitted cover between uses but always wash and dry it just before I cover it.

I wouldn't bother with a car cover if it is an every day driver. Having to remove a wet cover can be quite a pain in the ****. I have a custom fit Noah cover which fits like a glove. I don't even have to tie it down. Fortunately, my ES is not an every day driver. Hence, I feel that it is worth the purchase.
