Hello,
I just bought a 99 GS4 from Arizona recently..It is gold, and has gold emblems. An old couple were the first owners, and apparently liked the look. To me it is kinda gaudy. I definitely agree that gold emblems are the worst, and I need to change these right away. This is my first car with the gold emblems, and they have got to go!!

Any ideas as to how much the emblems cost? I don't want to pay an arm and a leg at the dealer for them.

Call your local lexus dealer and they can look this up for you. Last time I looked, the pearl emblems were in the $200+ range, gold emblems were more. Not sure about chrome.

I'd try both Carson Toyota and Sewell Lexus (lexus-parts.com). Lexus parts has a code (see link above) to get a CL discount. Just call Carson Toyota (1800 number on their website) tell them you were referred from ClubLexus and see what price they can do.

You can get them pretty cheap on eBay fairly often, but its a crapshoot on quality.

My GS had the gold plating also, and I feel the same as you about them. I was going to buy the chrome also but I decided to try my Dremel tool with a polishing bit and some compound on them first, to see if I could remove the gold plating. It worked.

It took me an afternoon, but I polished off all the gold plating and now I have shiny chrome emblems. The dealerships have someone come in and electroplate them gold, but they do it right over the factory chrome emblems.

So, if you can get it off, there are chrome emblems underneath. Best of luck whatever you decide.
