Unhappy Remove fine scratched from wood trim

I have a 1998 ES300 bought used. There are many fine scratches on the wood trim around the shifter. Is there a way to remove these? Some forum searches hinted at 3M Imperial Hand Glaze and microfiber cloth. Anybody try this? I wanted some additional advice before I attempt something.

Thanks for any advice...

The wood is covered with a clear finish. You can use the same things on it as you use on the paint on your car. Polish will remove the scratches. I think I'd use a terry-cloth applicator and remove with a MF towel.
