Default Favorite Wax / Polish for your SC (Do we have clear coats?)

I'm browsing the Zaino brothers site for some more Leather in a Bottle (You owe it to yourself to try this stuff - it is fantastic) and I was looking at the car wax /polish options. I have no idea whether the SC has a clear coat finish or is "regular" paint. Is clear coat solely an after market option?

Thanks for your help.

PB,

I believe the answer is 'it depends' - most all of them do but there is some discussion over whether black does or not.

I'm moving your thread to the detailing forum Dan (our professional detailer moderator and Lexus owner) has a number of threads on the topic of clearcoat and Lexus.

What we need you to do is to use a cleaner wax or swirl remover polish on your car's paint, with a white terry cloth, and see if the paint color comes off on your rag. If it DOES, you have single stage, if it DOES NOT, you have clearcoat. The *general* results indicate most all Lexus models that had previously had single stage changed to clearcoat around model year 2000. The Black Onyx at least.

If you would, kindly post in this thread ;

about your results. State the model and year and clearcoat or single stage. Thanks !

I think so, too. The metallic/mica/pearl colors should be all clearcoat. The colors that seem to be in question regarding a clearcoat are the Black Onyx and Absolutely Red (both non-metallic).

I just got done using the Zaino system on my new blue 04 IS. Make sure you have some time to do it right, I wound up doing a wash, polish, then another polish with the ZFX additive. Sprayed the Z6 on it between the 2 polish coats. Results are fantastic ! Got lots of oohs and aahs
