I originally posted this in a thread in the GS area, but figured I'd move it here since I think car care belongs in the maintenance area.
==============================
First let me say, I'm not a fanatic about the depth of the shine on my car. I'm interested in a low maintence vehicle that I don't have to wash each weekend -- that's one of the reasons I buy cars with a silver exterior...but I do want my finish to last.
I just want to wash the car to keep it clean and put a coating on to protect the paint and have it look good. What about some of the newer plastic finishes? They seem to do an OK job to me. They say they last a year, but I suspect that's a push. For a car that is garaged, I can see having to do it every six months just to be safe.
Does anybody have some empirical data on wax vs. plastic? I'd appreciate hearing from those who know more about this than I.

I once was a long time user of meguairs, and the best and easiest to use i found there was gold class wax. However, since then i have switched to zaino exclusively on all my vehicles. A polymer and lasts a long time as well as looks great. Ask around, there are alot of die hard zaino fans, basically if you try it, you'll be hooked.

Is Zaino a polymer? If so, that's cool.
I've read several posts about how good it is and how great and deep the shine looks, but I never realized it was a long lasting polymer. I mis-assumed it was wax.
How often would it have to be applied?

Zaino is a polymer.
I believe waxs protect but polymers bond and sort of repair.
