Rims scratched...what to do...?
CL,
In desperation, I made the mistake of going to a gas station car wash today and it was THEE most VIOLENT experience my car has ever suffered.
This is the first time any car wash has touched the car. I used to use a touchless car wash but it was too acidic for the rims and I've been washing by hand since September. Well, it was cold and I was lazy so I went to a car wash.
I thought it was going to break the windshield!! The washers knocked both side mirrors closed and all I could think of were SCRATCHES in the paint.
When I got out and looked at the car BOTH rims on the left (driver's) side have hundreds of hairline scratches on the outer lip of the rim! I could've kicked myself because I KNEW better than to send the car into one of those Death Chambers --but did it anyway.
I called Wheel Techniques in San Jose to get an estimate on repolshing the rims but they won't get back to me until Monday afternoon.
Any ideas? Anything I can buy over the counter? Can I get a polishing bit for my drill or Dremel? Anything? I'm afraid the wheel shop is going to charge $100 a wheel to repolish.
Thanks in advance.

Here's a good kit if you want to DIY Darius;

You can try by hand with one of these polishes, whichever suits the damage best;

Make sure you're certain the wheels ARE NOT clearcoated before you go that route though. ( I'm assuming you already know that) Good luck.

Mothers Polish, and a product called Zoop seal. Zoop Seal is like a forcefield arond your wheels. even the wheel si had on my contour, i scuffed a curb on them sumb****es and they didnt scratch. ebverything runs right off of them, brake dust blows off on the highway, ntohing can stick to them, therefore nothing can scratch them.

At first I looked at the price of ZoopSeal and thought, 150.00??? But it is well worth the time I spend cleaning and to keep them from oxidizing and scratching...priceless. Thanks again.

it is expensive, but it only has to be applied once a year at most, worth every penny to keep your wheels shiny. after you have applied it, nothing will stick to these rims, ti will be like glass.

also a post to zoop seal, i had gunmetal wheel sand a polished lip on my contour, and i clid up against acurb (curb rash) they were 17X7.5, i got out and looked, and they wre fine, not a scratch on them...testament to Zoop seal, since i had applied it just 2 days before.
thsi stuff wil lmake it so much easier to clean your wheel stoo, just take an air compressor and blow it off.
