I just bought my first SUV...a black GX 470. Because of the horror stories I've heard about automatic car washes, I think I'm going to try to wash the car myself using Quick&Easy Wash (QEW) or maybe the traditional way. What's the best way to reach and wash the top of the SUV? Do people use ladders?

I stand on the running boards on my GX and can reach the roof with no problem. For my wife's X5 I bought a small plastic Rubbermaid step stool at Wal-Mart, works great!

I already have a stepladder, but I guess that would have too much potential for scratching if it tipped. I guess I should get a stepping stool....

Get one of those advertised 'schewallas' (I think that's the name of the contraption) with an extention. lol.
