Is there any reason to use one clay brand over another?

[ since I didn't get any comments from this when it was part of another thread, I've popped it out here in case nobody was reading that other thread ]
I've used Zaino clay in the past and it works great (and it's now gone), but for the guy that can't think in advance and order more, is there any difference between something like a Zaino clay vs. a clay that can be found at my local PepBoys or Kragen? One inquiring mind wants to know..

I like the mothers clay bar. I get it at the pep boys and its pretty cheap. Thats the only one I have ever used so I cant say. I have heard nothing but great things about Zaino products so you cant go wrong with them. Give it a try and see how it works.

I've read at Autopia that Zaino clay is repackaged Mother's clay ( or vice-versa, take your pick). They both likely buy it from the same raw manufacturer. I've not used Mother's clay but have the Zaino (used it the other day) so I can't say whether or not it's true, but both get rave reviews.
The only clay that I didn't like much was the old version of meguiar's clay, very soft and messy compared to the others. I hear they have changed their bar and it's better now. That aside, stick with name brands and it'll likely do exactly what you need it to do.
Most consumer grades are fine for most common environmental fallout and not overly aggressive on the paint. After that it just comes down to personal preference.

I used Clay Magic on my ES300.. just used one-third of the bar for the entire car. After I was finished, I think I had used each and every inch of that one-third piece, so I just threw it in the trash.

I'm pretty sure its Clay Magic that owns the patent on Auto Clay therefor everyone else is re-selling the Clay Magic stuff and marking it up quite a bit. See if you can order Clay Magic online.
