What rubbing compound and glaze did you use, and did you use it by hand or buffer? Did you use a block to sand the lights? Also did you go back and forth or in circles? I am thinking about doing this to make my headlights extra clean but dont want to mess it up

My headlights and DRL lens were in bad shape...many scratches/pits and looked dirty all the time even after a good wash. Felt very rough. I suppose 6 yrs and 140K miles will do that, especially with all the New England highway driving...we all know how much sand is on those roads in Mass, NH and not to mention here in FL. So a couple months ago I did the 2000 grit hand wet sanding followed by Maquires ScratchX by hand, then ScratchX using a good buffer...and what a difference...almost like new and much clearer. I feel like I got new headlights.

3M rubbing compound and finishing glaze....all by hand....my pattern was any which way possible....circles and straight lines back and forth. Deeper scratches i did the area again...but added more hand pressure.

Both Mother's & Meguiar's are "old school" products that are unsuitable for modern applications. None of their products rated well by Consumer Reports. They rely on heavy advertising and big-box store presence to push the products.

3M actually has a great automotive product line. However, its complete product line is hard to find and they don't advertise their auto stuff much. You'll still find some 3M stuff here & there. I recently found a mom-n-pop shop located in some industrial area that actually carries the entire 3M line. It was like a gold mine for me.
