Default DRL scratches?

Sup All,

Is there something available to fix scratches on the DRL? One of my DRL has some scratches, saw that today while washing the car... now the interesting thing is that these scratches were exactly under some bird droppings.... Is it possible for bird **** to corrode away plastic?

The plastx works great on minor scratches.

I'm not a big fan of maguiers, personaly I use 3m scratch remover, its more expansive but it works 10000 times better, I remember trying to buff out scratches with meguiers and it looked even more hazy then before, and 3m makes it look brand new. But ofcourse you will need a buffer to make it look good, doing it by hand wont give you the result your looking for.

I bought a bottle of Mother's plastic polish (I can't recall the exact name of the product), and it was mediocre at best. I think I may pick up some Meguiars or 3M.

Ya, 3M has good plastic polish. There are two bottles to buy: plastic cleaner (has some grit in it to remove scratches) and a plastic polish (very little grit to make plastic nice and shiney). Use the cleaner first then follow up with the polish. If you're in California, you can find them at Napa Auto Parts.

Will the 3M product(s) work equally well on the headlight covers?

Can a little elbow grease successfully be substituted for a buffer?

If you have plastic covers just remove then and get new once Im not sure you can buff those out, and no elbow greece wont give you the satisfactory result you are looking for, you can buy a buffer for 20 dollers at homedepot, its a worth while investement, if you can figure out how to buff out headlights or even sand them down and buff them then your set for life.

I got the Meguirs platicx, but that did not remove the scratches.... as they are a little deep. How much will a replacement cost?

You can also try wetsanding the headlights to remove the deep scratches and then polish it to remove the sanding marks. It's worth a try before you go and buy new headlights.

Here is a thread that discusses the process https://www.clublexus.com/forums/automotive-care-and-detailing/63690-how-to-remove-scratches-on-headlight-caused-by-sanding.html

Actually, no scratches on my headlight covers ... just a nice faded "coating" that makes them look anything like new. Still recommend 3M? Still recommend a buffer vs. elbow grease?

If the headlight covers are plastic, then the 3M stuff should work. Doing it by hand is fine, but if you know how to use a buffer that will save you some time.

i just scraped my plastic headlight covers against a portion of concrete wall that protrudes out a bit.....not deep at all...but the clear plastic is not frosted white looking......i stop as soon as i noticed i was scrapin it.

What do you recommend i do to take repair it.....wet/sand with 1500 grit....then with 2000 grit....then scratch remover....and finally plastic cleaner and plastic polish?

Please reply if this is my best bet in removing.

Thanx ppl.

Pete
