I have an 92 SC300 with an extremely dirty engine bay. I want to detail the engine bay so that itll look close to a car on sale at a dealer lot. Since the 2jz motor is said to be extremely sensitive to water, I used simple green and some damp rags. Needless to say, there are still sludge here n there in the crevices. Whats my safest option since soaking the engine with simple green, use a tooth brush, then hosing it off isnt an option? Some say steamcleaning is the best way. My friend runs a steamcleaning business, cleaning sidewalks, and that soaks up as much as a conventional hose.

I have heard that steamcleaning is bad for the electric wires by allowing moisture to seep into wiring and electrical parts. I havent tried it but stayed away from it because of that.
I have heard some detailers recommend for a quick fix to spray WD40 in the engine bay for a great shine. But that will also cause dirt contaminants to stick to WD40 and may make it more of a pain to clean later.
My engine has stayed relatively clean. I just get in there once a month and take a damp rag to it and most dirt comes out that way
