Scratches/Pits
Hey guys, I have a 92 SC300, and I am having a heck of a time in this stupid small town...gravel everywhere, etc...Anywho, on top of my trunk, a cat decided to scratch up my paint with its claws. And then, I've been noticing pits (holes in the paint) on the sides and front of my car where gravel has probably popped up and hit it. I need some advice
I've never seen a lexus with rust on it, but then again, its not something i look for. I am moving back to the city in a year or so, so I will probably repaint it, or at the very least, have it detailed. But until then, do I need to worry about rust? I can see the grey on the scratches/pits....on most normal cars, that means rust will follow...but i hoped that maybe lexus put some kind of coating on the steel. Anywho, I have some lexus touchup paint, it wont FIX the problem cuz they are pits...but it might stop the rust....should i just leave the car alone, and repaint it when i can, or is there something i need to do to keep it from rusting until i can repaint? any advice would be great

Lexus does electrogalvanic deposition dipping ( called "E coat" ), as do all car manufacturers, as well as primer over that, which is what you're seeing with the gray coloring. It's not impervious to rust though, so I would recommend adding some touch-up paint until you can afford to repaint the car.
It should go a long way to keeping rust from starting in the pitted areas. If you have base/clear, make sure to apply the clear and not just the base color touch up.
