New RX400h Interior Leather Treatment Option
I just bought a RX400h with a grey leather interior. The deal has offered me a $350 after market option to get the interior of the vehicle treated with a scotchgard like thing. this would apprently give me a 5 year warranty against discoloration of the leather in the vehicle. It won't protect against cuts and damage to the leather, but in case of spilt liquids, milk, etc. they would clean it for free or if necessary replace the leather.
Is this a useful option ? Or is it just a way for dealers to make some extra money ?
Any suggestions/advise will be appreciated....

It's a ripoff, just as you suspected. Spend $25 on some premium leather cleaner/conditioner and you will be just fine.
This falls into the same ripoff category as the dealer applied $500 paint protection packages.
Save your money.

I'm with Jim on this one. Those 'services' are sooo over infalted, over-hyped & over sold that it makes my hair stand on end when those guysl looks me straight in the eyes and try to sell me a "good" service when I know they are bull-****ting and yet still their confidence in the sale really makes me wanna puke.

I've noticed the Lexus dealers I have dealt with over the years have never tried to offer me an extended warranty, paint protection, undercoating, etc. I appreciate it. However, other makes have these finance/merchandise pushy sales droids that make a bundle off talking people into buying that crap. Just say no thanks and leave.
