Default Remove clear coat and polishing rims

Anyone have prior experience removing the clear coat off their rims? I've read up articles from google and wondered if there was a write up for it.

It seems like everyone uses Tal-Strip to remove the clear coat then they lightly wet-sand it w/ 400 grit sandpaper. Then just go back with mothers to polish it. Is this correct? Am I missing any steps?

When I stipped a customers wheels I used Kleen Strip - I got it at a marine store. It was a real mess, but eventually I got all the clear off. I then sanded with 600 grit to remove scratches then 2000 grit to smooth it out, then polished - sanding over the 400/600 with 200 unigrit makes polishing a lot easier. After that all you need to do is clean them with rubbing alcohol then re-clear them.

Cheers.

I just went to Autozone to get the Tal-Strip. The sellers says that this stuff is highly corrosive and dangerous. If a drop of it gets onto your bare skin, it will burn FAST. So a warning for others out there. I'll post a before and after picture. I'm going to tackle it this weekend.
