Default repaint the whole car or detailing?

Hi,

I am asking this for my co-worker who own a 99 GS black on black. after 7 years the paint is showing age and there are minor dings (3 very minor ding I would say) and of course lots to chips on the front hood and bumper. last week he got a huge deep scratch on the driver side doors. from the front to the back doors.

he was thinking just repaint the whole car. however, he also think aftermarker paint is never going to look as good as the OEM paint when new. so he is also thinking just repaint the 2 doors and after that do a high end detial of the car by pros. (he is thinking to spend up to $1000 on the detialing).

now the question comes down to should he just spend another $1000 to repaint the whole car? so total will be about $3000 or maybe $4000. will the aftermarket paint as good as the OEM paint? also any recommand Body shop in SF bay area? he needs to repaint the 2 doors anyway and his insurance going to pay it so he just wants the best for the paint. Thanks.
