Default Removing Light Scratches

I was washing my car the other day and I accidentally scratched the car with perhaps some dirt on the sponge. Is there a good way to remove light scratches? It's not very deep at all but I can still feel it with the fingernail.

Sorry to hear that mcyc.
Try ScratchX from Meguiar's.

2000 grit wet sand....then 3M rubbing compound....then finally 3M finishing glaze. It'll be like new.

if you don't see metal, and you just feel it with fingernail, try to use scratch removers first. if that doesn't help then use the wet sand method that pete suggested

For first timers I would suggest to try the Scratch X method first. I wouldn't suggest sanding because too much pressure will remove paint and too little wouldn't help at all. You might end up putting more damage on the car than it already has.

Thanks for all your responses. I will try Scratch X first. The last thing I want to do is try to wet sand and make it worse.
